TE 889 Multimedia Development - Flash Game with Video Integration
Reflective Statement:
This educational Flash game is the same game listed under TE 888 Multimedia Production, but it has been enhanced with the integration of video. This Flash enhancement project was done for the class TE 889 Multimedia Development. It uses live action video mixed in with the regular animation. The majority of the actual video used with the Flash game is at the end (a link to jump to the end of game is provided within the game itself so as to view the video integration portion).
Process Statement:
This was a very interesting and frustrating project in that mixing Flash and video can be complicated. It isn’t difficult to have both medias together, but it is difficult to try and have both interact or meld together. This was a great project to improve my skills with Flash in that Flash is a very powerful tool that has many applications within education. Through the process of working on the project I have come to better appreciate that games and simulations created with Flash can be a valuable asset with regards to instructional technology.
Assessment Statement:
I consider this project to be partially successful in that I was able to accomplish what I wanted to do (combine live action video with Flash), but artistically I didn’t like the way it looked. In the future I might try a slightly different approach such as video demos throughout the game. The main skills gained and improved upon with this project are: Flash skills, video editing, audio manipulation, lighting, special effects: use of green screen.

Great game! I like the lingo used...
With no military background, I did miserably though. I accidentally got a few right but chickened out in terms of anything thereafter.
Okay, that's it for me for today!
This turned out better than I would have thought. I remember when you told me about the idea and I had no idea how you would pull it off.
This is a great way to learn a technology like flash. Pick a difficult task with clearly defined goals and find a way to get it done.
The only thing that I would improve, and I have no idea about military training, but it seemed like the choices to answer the questions were a bit redundant. For example, I noticed several of the choices were available in a row. Like if the correct answer was "Extend to the left, march" on the previous question, that answer was available to me in the next question. I suppose that is a viable answer, and I may be off base, but just a thought.
Overall, I think it is impressive and is a great example of the way that these types of technologies can help with training. This is a very simple example, but a great way to get people very familiar with the excerises without having to actually have someone there training them.
You make a good point Brian. In the future I would like to modify this game to make it a little more difficult and to include a scoring system.
I think you created this well and you morphing into this animated character was kool. :)
Enjoyed the learning of this...but failed miserable on the process... everytime I thought you should turn right, I learnt I had to do a different step. Good practice session for soldiers to test their knowledge (can be used as a prerequisite assessment as well). What do you think?
